Norway: Harassment allegations at LO
In mid-January 2007, a crisis developed within the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) over criticism of the management style of its chair, Gerd Liv Valla, who is widely considered to be the most powerful woman in Norway. The controversy arose when a former international secretary at LO, Ingunn Yssen, went public with her reasons for leaving the organisation. She alleged that she had been subject to systematic intimidation by Valla since 2004.
