The second year of a two-year pay and conditions deal negotiated between the Papermaking Sector Body of the Confederation of Paper Industries (formerly known as the Paper Federation of Great Britain) and the GPMU, Amicus (AEEU section), the GMB, and the TGWU, resulted in industry minimum rates being increased by 4% with effect from 5 February 2005.
Flexibility and competitiveness the key
The agreement contains a memorandum of agreement in relation to the offsetting of the cost of the pay award. Specifically, all parties to the deal "unreservedly accept that the future of the industry depends upon its ability to improve its share of the home market, and to compete effectively in international markets.
