The salaries of 23,000 professional and technical staff at the BBC were increased by 2.8%, effective from 1 August 2006. In addition, a small budget was set aside to fund individual performance-related increases (awarded at the discretion of line managers) and to meet salary progression commitments. All other allowances, such as maternity pay and unsocial working hours premiums rise in line with the general award.
