The first stage of a new two-year pay and conditions agreement negotiated under the auspices of the joint industry board (JIB) for plumbing mechanical engineering services for England and Wales has resulted in a 3.5% pay rise, effective from 2 January 2006. It is estimated that the settlement directly covers around 20,000 employees, and applies indirectly as an industry benchmark to a further 40,000 workers.
