Poland: Controversy over public sector workers' perks

In September 2008, the Polish government announced that it would propose measures to reduce costly special benefits, such as free fuel or travel, enjoyed by workers in some state-owned industries.

The perks received by some public sector workers, at considerable cost to the state budget, have become increasingly controversial at a time of strained public finances and increasing prices.
