Poland: Customs officers take action for higher pay

Late January 2008 saw chaos at Polish border crossings as customs officers took unofficial industrial action in support of demands for major pay increases.

Customs officers had called for their average monthly pay to be doubled to PLN4,000 (€1,105); the government’s budget forecasts for 2008 included provision for a wage rise of only 9%.
