Public sector pay in 2000/01
After sticking to Conservative spending plans for his first two years in office, Gordon Brown announced in July an £18 billion cash injection for Britain's public services over the next three years. These include plans to spend an extra £1.6 billion a year on education and employment and £1.4 billion a year more on NHS capital spending.
