Refractory workers: Pay rates rise by up to 6.3%

In the third and final stage of a three-year pay and conditions agreement, bricklayers, masons, operatives and labourers covered by the national agreement negotiated between the Refractory Users Federation and trade union Ucatt will have their basic pay rates increased by between 3% and 6.3%, effective from 1 January 2006. Refractories are fire-resistant substances that can withstand high temperatures, and are used in kilns and furnaces.

Last year, as part of the second stage of the agreement, minimum industry rates were increased by between 3.1% and 6.5%, effective from 1 January 2005.
