Social partners: Partners assess joint equality strategy

On 30-31 January, at an event to launch 2007 as the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All, the central EU-level social partner organisations - the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), BusinessEurope (formerly Unice - see below) for private sector employers, UEAPME for small and medium-sized enterprises and CEEP for public sector employers - presented a report1 on progress on the implementation of their joint strategy on gender equality. In March 2005 (European Union: Social partners agree joint text on gender equality), the social partners adopted a "framework of actions on gender equality", which called on their national member organisations to focus on four priorities: addressing gender roles; promoting women in decision-making; supporting work-life balance; and tackling the gender pay gap.
