Spain: Draft law on pensions reform

In February, the government issued draft legislation on pensions reform, based on an agreement on the issue it concluded with trade unions and employers' organisations in July 2006 (EER 392 p.13). Under the proposed law, the contribution history required for entitlement to a contributory pension (ie one based on contribution history rather than disability, poverty or other needs) from the public social security system will be increased from 12.6 years to 15. The change will be introduced progressively.
