Spain: Government acts to help low paid and boost employment

The Spanish government announced a series of measures on 8 November 2008, aimed at increasing employment and easing the effects of the economic downturn on lower-paid workers.

In September 2008, the unemployment rate in Spain reached 11.9%, according to Eurostat, which was the highest level in the EU.
