Spain: Minister opposes widespread early retirement
The minister of labour, Celestino Corbacho, has called on employers not to rely on early retirement as a means of reducing workforces during the current economic downturn.
Unemployment continues to mount in Spain, standing at 11% (the EU’s highest rate) in July 2008, according to Eurostat, compared with 8.2% a year previously.
