Tesco retail staff: 3.1% rise

The country's largest private sector employer, supermarket chain Tesco, has increased basic pay rates for store employees and section managers by 3.1%, effective 3 July 2005. The pay increase, agreed with retail union Usdaw, takes the basic rate for a provincial employee on grade C (which includes checkout operators) with one year's service, from £5.66 to £5.83 an hour.
