Tesco: Retail staff receive 4% rise

The country's largest private sector employer, supermarket chain Tesco, has increased basic pay rates for its 247,500 store employees and section managers by 4%, effective from 1 July 2007.
The pay increase, agreed with retail union Usdaw, takes the basic rate for a provincial employee with a year's service on grade C (which includes checkout operators) from £6.02 to £6.26 an hour.
