Unions seek stronger safeguards on monitoring in the workplace

The TUC has called for the Employment Practices Data Protection Code1 to be "toughened up" in a bid to stop employers "snooping" on employees2.

It says employers go too far in eavesdropping on telephone calls, measuring toilet breaks, monitoring emails, internet use and computer work, and using CCTV, hidden cameras, smart cards and tracking devices to keep an eye on work activities.
