United Kingdom: First steps towards global 'super-union'

On 18 April 2007, at a ceremony held in Ottawa, Canada, two UK unions, Amicus and the TGWU, and the North American United Steelworkers (USW) announced the opening of a formal process to prepare the ground for the creation of the first transatlantic “super union”.

Representing more than 3.4 million members in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland, the proposed union would, it is claimed, be the world’s largest.
