United Kingdom: Union claims age discrimination victory

In what is believed to be the first age discrimination case to be brought before an employment tribunal, Unison, the UK’s largest public sector union, has succeeded in getting a member reinstated.

A 67-year-old clerical worker in the therapy department of Treliske Hospital, in Truro, Cornwall, was dismissed from her job on 30 September 2006, the day before the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came intoforce.
