Trade union leaders called for a radical employment rights agenda at the 2004 TUC Congress, but they also welcomed the prime minister's endorsement of the Warwick agreement, as our report from Brighton explains.

Calls for the government to repeal "anti-trade union legislation", to "bring UK law in line with ILO Conventions" and "commit to restoration of national sectoral bargaining in every industry" that were made at this year's TUC Congress echoed the spirit of many congresses past (see box ).
