Manage an employee who becomes pregnant again while on maternity leave
Key points
If an employee becomes pregnant again while on maternity leave, they will qualify for another 52 weeks' statutory maternity leave.
Depending on when the second baby is due, and whether or not the employee takes a period of another kind of leave after maternity leave, this could mean that they return to work for only a short time, or not at all, before starting their second period of maternity leave.
The employee will not necessarily be entitled to statutory maternity pay during their second period of maternity leave. To qualify, they must meet the minimum average earnings requirement during the relevant period.
