Re-establishment of the School Support Staff Negotiating Body
Implementation date: Not expected before 2026
The Employment Rights Bill includes provisions to re-establish a negotiating body for school support staff. The previous School Support Staff Negotiating Body SSSNB was abolished in 2010.
The SSSNB will have a remit to negotiate remuneration and terms and conditions, and to advise on training and career progression for school support staff.
Regulations will be required to set out further detail. The Government has said it will consult on the detail, including the definition of support staff.
It is not yet known when this measure will come into force. In its Next Steps to Make Work Pay policy paper, the Government said it expects to begin consulting in 2025 on the various measures covered in the Bill and that it anticipates that "the majority of reforms will take effect no earlier than 2026".
