Statutory sick pay (SSP)
An employee can receive statutory sick pay for a maximum of 28 weeks. The employee's average weekly earnings must be equal to or more than the lower earnings limit. From 6 April 2026, employees will no longer be required to earn at least the lower earnings limit (LEL) to qualify for statutory sick pay.
